:|:|: CUSTOM rug WORK :|:|:

I enjoy working with clients to design rag rugs that fit perfectly into their color schemes and home.  Starting with color chips and your fabric swatches, samplers are woven until you are happy with the warp/weft colors, design and weave structure.

American fiber farmers seeking a weaver who uses only hand-powered looms are welcome to contact me via my Contract Work Form. I weave core-spun alpaca and wool rugs on my larger looms, as well as wool and alpaca blankets for farmers who live within a 100-mile radius of Guilderland, NY.

Please use my order form here if you wish to request a custom rug similar to one you see in my Gallery.

I will occasionally sell small rugs at the annual Hudson Mohawk Weavers Guild show in November in Colonie, NY. Here is a link to what is available in November 2020.

RUGS can be woven any length and up to 10 feet wide, but common sizes are:  2′x 3′,  2′x 4′,  3′x 5′,  4′x 6′,  5′x 8′,  6′x 9′, 7′x 10′,  8′x 10′,  9′x 12’,  10'x 13' or 10'x 14'. RUNNERS are generally 2.5' to 3' wide and 6' - 20' long.

WEAVE STRUCTURE AND PATTERN

Weave Structure has a profound effect on the look, strength and thickness of your rug.  Several popular structures are pictured here, but requests for other techniques will be considered and accommodated whenever possible.

Popular Rag Rug Patterns includes patterns such as Tabby Pick and Pick, Turkey Tracks, Hit or Miss, Blocks and Stripes which can be created with any color combinations.

EDGING

Headers The beginning and end of each rug is woven with thinner yarn to create a tight edge that will increase its life.  If your rug is highly patterned the header will be woven with little design in it, but very intricate patterns can be woven into these headers when requested.

Fringe, or Not? Because loose warp ends fray and get caught in vacuums and pets' claws, all my rugs are finished off so that they will last longer.  Your rug edges can be bound by turning over and sewing in by hand, or the warp fringe can be twisted or braided.  Other finishing techniques can be requested.
