Core-spun Rugs in Wool or Alpaca (Cambridge, NY)

  • NYhandweaver@gmail.com Guilderland, New York United States (map)

Beginners alert! If you have ever wanted to learn to weave, but are afraid of the tools and process, this class is for you! On rug looms that have already been warped you can easily weave a 26 inch by 4-foot rug in 2 days. If you want to weave 2 rugs, or a wider rug and longer (for intermediate weavers) in 3 days. Imagine going home from this class with a finished rug ready to lay beside your bed.

In this class you will learn how to twist your yarn to create a lasting edge, perfect your beat to weave a tight rug, and weave fun headers (borders at each end of the rug) to add a touch of fun.

Core-spun yarn is a fat, nubbly yarn that is made by spinning wool or alpaca fibers loosely around a stable inner (core) yarn, and rugs can be woven up quickly because the yarn is so fat. A selection of New York and Connecticut-grown yarns will be available for purchase at the beginning of the class, or you may purchase your yarn ahead of the class at CeCe’s Wool in Guilderland, NY, or by contacting the instructor at Stephanie Morton

Class Fee: $275 for first 2 days, or $350 for 3 days. Pre-warping is included in the fee. Warp and weft materials are not included in this fee. A deposit of $150 is required to secure your spot in this small class of 4 students.

Instructor: Stephanie Morton

Skill Level: Absolute Beginner and up.
