Tartans and Plaids!

  • NYhandweaver@gmail.com Guilderland, New York United States (map)

(Please note that if this class is sold out you can email me at stephaniemortonhandweaver@gmail.com to be put on the wait list.)

Using one of the traditional patterns for your family name, we will warp our looms according to authentic Tartan patterns and weave a treasured family heirloom.  You may choose between weaving a cotton tea towel (or two), a wool scarf or a cotton table runner.  Prior to the class you will work online with the Instructor, Stephanie Morton, to research and choose your pattern.  Don't have a Scottish surname in your family?  Not to worry - you can choose a Black Watch or other regimental tartan to weave, or design your own, unique plaid.

During this 4-day workshop you will calculate your warp and pattern colors, wind/beam on/thread and sley your warp on 4-harness looms in straight 2/2 twill.  The threading is simple, but the interplay of colors will create your impressive pattern.
