Catalogne! The Rag Coverlets of Acadia.

Catalognes are traditional rag coverlets woven in Quebec.  Using my 9-foot-wide, Canadian-made, Clement loom we will weave our coverlets together as a group project or individually as a workshop.  Looms will be pre-warped with natural colored, American-grown cotton. The class can be as small as one student working together with me on the Clement, or as a workshop for two students who weave one half of their catalogne on a smaller floor loom. The student then goes home with an additional warp wound in class to weave the second half of their coverlet on their own loom.  The two halves can then be sewn together by hand to create a wider coverlet.  Please contact me directly if you wish to weave a wide width catalogne on your own with me.  Or you may choose to join our Community Loom Project, where we weave as a group to help each other complete queen to king-sized catalogne to take home. (See the Weaving Together page on this site) Please note that all photos were taken in Old Lyme, Connecticut)

Workshop Fee: $535.00 includes pre-warping fee. There is a nominal charge for warp materials. What to Bring: Your washed, ironed and uncut rag.

Community Loom Project Fee: There is no fee for weaving together, but each principal weaver pays for the warp materials for his/her coverlet, and the same weaver also brings their weft materials which will be cut prior to, and perhaps during, the group sessions. Each principal weaver who has the help of other weavers is expected to assist other principal weavers in return for the help they received for their catalogne. Please Contact me to discuss how this project works, or go to my Weaving Together page. NYhandweaver@gmail.com

Students working alone with me on the larger Clement will weave an 81” by 110” coverlet that can be used for a single or double bed.

Fran wove half of her catalogne on a 48” wide loom and went home to weave the other half with a wound warp and plenty of inspiration!
