Rag Rug: Beginners' level

Students will weave their own 24” x 36” rag rugs from start to finish, first choosing colors and winding their own warps, dressing their loom, cutting their own rag/fabric that they have washed and brought to class, and weaving their own rug. Starting with colorful bound-weave headers, students learn how to create an edge to their rug that is both beautiful and sturdy.  Using the simple plain-weave structure we will focus on perfecting our beat, providing enough slack in our weft and twisting beautiful edges.  Stephanie will instruct you in the cleanest, easiest way to cut strips and overlap them so that your rug is relatively free of surface bumps.  Students may choose between fringed or bound edges, which will be completed in class so that you bring home a finished rug! (Please note that all photos were taken in my Old Lyme, CT studios, but this class will be held in the CeCe’s Wool weaving workshop located at 2080 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY.) You may register directly through this link on the CeCe’s Wool website: https://www.ceceswool.com/events-and-classes/

“It’s always peaceful weaving at Stephanie’s. Taking a class or or just being in the studio is a mini vacation.” Cathy P., Old Saybrook, Connecticut
