CONNECTICUT RIVER BLANKETS

Natural-dyed New England wool blankets handwoven in Old Lyme  Connecticut:
Classes to weave an heirloom blanket and blankets woven on commission.

The Connecticut River Blanket intertwines my weaving experience with Patricia Fortinsky's deep knowledge of wool fiber, spinning and natural dyeing.  Patricia's beautiful Tidal Yarns reflect her more than 30 years of working with New England fleeces as a farmer, spinner and natural dyer.  She visits farms to hand-pick the most lustrous Romney fleeces, which she has spun up by Green Mountain Spinnery in Putney, VT.  She then takes this mottled grey worsted yarn and dyes it in her home, using only natural dyes and plants from her gardens.  Her amazing array of colors and soft, springy wool inspired me to use a point twill pattern that highlights the beautiful yarn and creates a luscious, warm blanket that will become a treasured heirloom.
